Probate Fees

Every estate is unique.  Without the full details of an estate, we cannot comprehend the complexity or work required.  For this reason, we record all of the time that we spend working on the matter and charge according to our hourly rates, subject to our minimum fees below.  Our hourly rates can be provided on request but range from £250 plus VAT an hour to £350 plus VAT per hour dependent on the experience of the lawyer. Trainee solicitor, paralegal and team assistant rates range from £90 – £175 plus VAT per hour.

If we are dealing with the full administration of the estate, then a minimum fee of £4,000 plus VAT will be applied.

If we limit our involvement to obtaining the Grant of Probate only, a minimum fee of £2,000 plus VAT will be applied to excepted estates.

If we apply for the grant only for a more complex estate (IHT400 required) the minimum fee is £2,500 plus VAT.

To give a rough indication, the administration of an estate usually falls between 1% and 3% of the gross value of the estate plus VAT.

The fee payable directly to the Probate Registry is £273.
